Ticking:
n: A strong,
tightly woven fabric of cotton or linen used to make pillow and
mattress coverings. It is usually in a striped pattern, with thick
and thin stripes.
Tobacco Lath:
n: A thin piece of wood that was used to string dried
tobacco plants for further drying or storage. Today, primitive
artists like to use old pieces of lath to create items such as
decorative ladders, boxes, stars, etc.
Tole Painting:
n: The art of decorative folk-art painting on tin or wooden
utensils, objects and furniture. With typical tole paintings, you
would see patterns, flowers, family jokes, or illustrations of
favorite stories. The art first began in 18th century New England,
but was spread to many countries. Modern tole painting typically
uses acrylic paints because of it's availability and long-lasting
qualities; and the term is starting to refer to any type of free
hand painting on any surface other than canvas.
Treen:
n: A Middle English word meaning "wooden".
Treenware:
n: Wares such as bowls, cutting boards, spoons, plates, etc
made from treen. These items were used for cooking and serving food
in colonial America before pottery was readily available. Treenware
on the market today is usually made from resin to replicate the
vintage treenware.
