Raffia: n: The leaf fibers of an African palm tree used as light cordage and in making hats, mats, and baskets, and more. The color and texture is similar to straw, so it is often used in crafting for scarecrows, filler, bows, and more.

Rag Balls: n: Since the colonial days, women would save their scraps of fabric or wool by wrapping the strips into balls. Most of the time, when they finally stored up enough rag balls; they would use the strips to create a braided rug. Today, people are using vintage and recreated rag balls as decorations in their homes.

Raggedies: n: A term used to describe dolls that resemble a vintage Raggedy Ann or Raggedy Andy doll.

Rag Quilt: n: A quilt that is made by sewing the seams on the outside then sniped and fringed for a soft pile at the seams.

Rag Stuffing: v: To stuff a fabric item such as a toy, doll, or other creation with scraps of fabric such as muslin. This results in a heavy, vintage feel to the item when finished.

Redware: n: Type of earthenware pottery typically decorated with slip trail or sgraffito decoration. A typical design would be a simple red slab plate with yellow wavy slip lines. The potters of Pennsylvania are the most known for beautiful redware pieces.

Rosehips: n: The aggregate fruit of the rose plant, consisting of several dry fruitlets enclosed by the enlarged, fleshy, usually red floral cup that is used for jelly or tea. They can also be dried out to use in potpourri or fixens.

Rug Hooking: v: The process of creating a hooked rug (see also: hooked rug).
