During the holiday season, there's nothing like the glow of a
candle, or the twinkle of lights to make it seem even more magical!
This month, try using strings lights, faux flame bulbs, or candles
with your crafting to help bring some magic into the room. Create a
unique display lamp box, some holiday candle holders, or maybe add
lights to a fabric project... let your imagination run wild!

It's that time of year... the smell of apples, hay, pumpkins &
spice... There's nothing more powerful than a scent to bring back
memories of your childhood; and the holidays are full of wonderful
scents! This month, play on the scent of things, add essential
oils, or craft with scented items. If you're a candle maker and
already use scents everyday, try something new or mix scents to
create your own! Whether you're crafting for the harvest season, or
getting a head start on Christmas goodies, there are a wide variety
of scents to use or scented crafts to make that will evoke those
memories or make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside! If you're
stuck on what to try, we have a few
free recipes in our School House
for scented sprays, potpourri, and more!

A hint of Fall is in the air, time to start thinking of fall
leaves, hay rides, pumpkins, apples, and all the other wonderful
things to come!
This month let the outdoors inspire you in your crafting. Replicate
something from the outdoors such as fabric apples, corn, a harvest
moon, a painted fall scene... or bring the outdoors in by using
leaves, twigs, berries, pinecones, or anything else you can find
outdoors. Whatever you decide to create, make sure you enjoy your
time crafting as you admire the handiwork of nature!

This month, I challenge you to create something using one or more
wooden spools. It could be any type of wooden spool, and any size
you wish. Your spool can be the main focus for the project, or it
could be just an accessory, it's up to you! Have fun with this
project, and use it to help expand your creativity this month. Be
sure to post your pics in our
Gallery, I can't wait to see all
of your projects!

This month, I challenge you to create something using a medium
you've never used before. No matter what kind of crafting you do,
break out of your habits and give something new a try! For example
if you're a fabric artist, try using a fabric or finishing medium
you've never used before... or if you're used to working with wax,
try out a new type of wax or additive. A few unique mediums that I
have found intriguing is: paper clay, crackle medium, walnut ink,
and gel wax. Or, be creative and use items found around your house
as a new medium, such as newspaper or magazine clippings, a cereal
box, or a wooden spoon. Find a new product or item that intrigues
you; and get those creative juices flowing!

We have a great inspiring challenge for you this month! You may
have to put your thinking caps on for this one... create something
that includes (but is not limited to) these supplies: paint,
wire, wood, and homespun. Each of these supplies can be used as
accents, or as your main focus. Be creative... for example, your
wood element can be anything from a wood candlestick, a small wood
star accent, or your whole item can be made from wood. Mix and
match these supplies to come up with something you may never have
thought up. Use this challenge to expand your creative process and
thinking, and most of all, have fun!
Don't forget, we want to see those pictures!! Be sure to post a
photo of your finished item in our
Gallery under the
June 2007 Challenge category. It
will be neat to see the variety of items we get from the same
supplies.

This
month we're going to do something a little different. Each and
every one of us are so unique and different in what we do and how
we do it, that I though it would be fun for us all to work on a
single theme. Even though we will all be working on the same theme,
it will be
interesting to see all the different results from each crafter!
Now that Spring is finally in the air, I decided a suitable theme
for this month would be bumble bees.
So, whatever your favorite craft medium is, your challenge for this
month is to incorporate a bumble bee theme. It doesn't matter if
the item you make is an actual bee, or if you just use an idea of
the bee such as the black and yellow colors; be creative! Be sure to post pics
in our gallery,
and come chat with us about this month's challenge in our
forum!

It's
time to do some Spring cleaning!
This month, I challenge to you dig out all those unfinished
projects, and get them done! You know you have them, everyone does.
If you look way into the back of your craft cabinet, under your
bed, or wherever they may be lurking, I'm sure you'll find a few
projects you started in the past that never got finished. Now's the
time to dig them all out and finish them up! Be sure to post pics
in our gallery,
and come chat with us about this month's challenge in our
forum!

This
month we have a fun and inspiring challenge for you. Look around
your house, and choose an everyday object to use in your craft such
as a wooden spoon, a doorknob, an old table leg, or perhaps an old
sweater.
Use this item to transform it into something else such as a
candle holder, pin cushion, etc. What you will be creating is
essentially a "make-do". During colonial days, people didn’t
have money to just go out and buy what they wanted or needed; or
even the materials to make it. Instead, they had to make do with
what they had to create a substitute for that item. For example, if
a woman was unable to afford a pincushion, she would create one
with items such as a broken glass as the base, and scraps of fabric
for the cushion. Use this idea to create a "make-do" of your own.
Making something from essentially "nothing" will prove to be a
rewarding experience. Be sure to post your make-do's in our
gallery!

As
the new year begins, and the months fly by we'll soon find
ourselves enjoying a bright Spring day. Although it still doesn't
seem like winter has hit us yet. We have yet to have our first
winter snow here in Ct! But nonetheless, the Spring fever seems to
have hit most of us crafters already; has it hit you yet? If not,
here's your little nudge... this month I challenge you to create a
unique Spring or Easter item that uses glitter. Whether it's a
doll, an egg make-do, or something totally unique; glam it up this
time with a bit of glitter! If you've used glitter before, I'm sure
you'll find this challenge an easy task; but for those of us who
tend to steer away from it, here's your chance to experiment with
something new. Have fun with your new project, and don't forget to
post photos in our
gallery!
